The Deal on Prayer

Today’s Reading

“Pray continually.”

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Take a Moment

In other words, always be praying! Most of us have grown up learning there are certain times to pray, like before we eat and sleep. On special occasions, like testing day, we pray for good grades right before sitting down to take the test. While none of these are wrong times to pray, it is wrong to assume those are the only times we SHOULD pray. So, here’s the deal on prayer.

God wants to have a deep, intimate relationship with us. He wants to hear about all of it: your worries and confidence, your excitement and disappointment, your highs and lows.

I’ve heard many say, “But I’m not good at praying.” What does that even mean? How can you be BAD at praying? Answer: you can’t! Prayer is simply having a chat with the Lord.

“What if I can’t find the right words to say?” That’s okay! God knows what your heart is feeling. Trust me, he’s not up there going, “Child, you’re going to have to give me info than umm uh umm.” He doesn’t need a detailed explanation. He just wants your time.

Activity

Join me in spending more time actively praying today. Let’s make it a habit to have a better conversation with Jesus. If you have to do something to remind yourself throughout the day, do it! Tie a string around your wrist, fasting from something, or whatever will help you begin to build the habit of praying more!
