Today’s Reading

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Proverbs 4:23

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Psalm 27:1

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

2 Timothy 1:7

Take a Moment

More than ever, during these stressful times as our world battles COVID-19, it is important to meditate on God’s Word and guard our hearts and minds. It is easy to allow fear to creep in, but as the Bible says, God did not give us a spirit of fear!

There is nothing wrong with keeping up with the news. I would even argue that you should! But, I do believe in moderation.

Are you watching the news for hours every day? And then scrolling through Facebook as you go to bed for articles on the pandemic? Perhaps you work in the medical field and feel like you can’t escape talk about it. But, most importantly, is this affecting your spirit?

Remember that everything we take into our bodies and minds affects us, whether positively or negatively. When my sister was young, she would listen to a certain song that was very sad and depressing. She enjoyed the rhythm, so she listened to it on repeat. Do you know what happened to her? She became sad and depressed. When our mother realized what she had been listening to, she took it away and gave her only uplifting worship music to listen to. And wouldn’t you know it, she was back to being her bubbly, perky self in less than a week.

The point? As my mom would always say: Garbage in, garbage out.

You don’t have to stop watching/reading the news. That’s not what I’m saying. But if it is the cause for fear invading your heart, consider limiting your exposure to it. Guard your heart! It is the wellspring of life!

Activity

Challenge yourself to pay more attention to what is feeding you and the thoughts you are having. Meditate more on God’s Word this week and less on the fear being projected through our society right now.

I highly recommend watching The Chosen as part of your activity this week. See Momma Birdy’s review on it here.
