Never Too Young to Be Used by God

Today’s Reading

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.”

1 Timothy 4:12

Take a Moment

Are you a young believer? Perhaps you are an older believer? Mind you, we are talking about physical years. Did you know young Christians are commonly looked down on as being unqualified and largely inexperienced to do much more than sit and listen to teaching? Take heart, you are never too young to be used by God for incredible things!

Though a person may be young in years, this does not exclude them from hearing the voice of God. It also doesn’t exclude them from growing more rapidly in their relationship with the Lord than older Christians. I have personally met young believers that were constantly seeking God’s face, and they were no longer babes in Christ, while I have also met older Christians who did not prioritize God and remained babes in Christ.

Age is not a good indication of spiritual growth. When God searches for someone He can use, he is looking at their heart, not their date of birth.

In the Bible, God uses the young. Here are just a few examples I was able to find:

  • [1 Samuel 17:33] David is told not to fight Goliath because he is only a boy.
  • [John 6:9] Jesus was able to feed 5,000 people because of a young boy’s willingness to give up his five loaves of bread and two fish.
  • [Jeremiah 1:6-7] Jeremiah tells God he is too young to speak, but God reminds him he is not too young to do as God commands!

Activity

You are never too young to grow spiritually and be used by God. Meditate on the scripture in this post. Set goals for growing spiritually by reading God’s Word and praying continuously.
